Each year the Elbert County Historical Society’s annual Pioneer Fourth Celebration is held on the museum grounds in Kiowa.  The day is filled with fun family events that include an Open House of the Elbert County Museum, a pie baking contest and auction, live music, silent auction, watermelon eating contest, and kid’s games.

Pie Baking Contest Guidelines.
The Pie Baking Contest takes place in front of the museum under the pines trees, with a $50 first place prize for adults (21 and older) and $25 first place prize for kids (20 and younger). 

    • Pies must be entered by 11:30AM.  Judging starts at NOON.  The Auction follows at 1PM.
    • Pies must be homemade.  No cream pies please.
    • Pies are judged on both presentation (appearance) and taste.
    • Pies may be decorated (nothing cream based). 
    • Judges will slice a sliver from each pie and sample it.
    • Winners will be announced during the Pie Auction.
    • All pies are auctioned off to the highest bidder with the proceeds going to the museum.
